Paul Kagame
Paul Kagame was the commander of Rwandan Patriotic Front, a rebel unit that intervened in the country’s bloody genocidal war in 1994. He rose to be vice-president of the country in the aftermath of the war and since 2000, the president of the country.
The elections that have kept Kagame in power have been questioned, and so has he been challenged on how he treats his critics and detractors in Rwanda. However, there is very little debate about Kagame’s reshaping Rwanda into the nation it promises to become from the ashes of the genocide.
