Fort Montagu

Fort Montagu is at the eastern end of Nassau Harbor along its waterfront and it is said to be the oldest fort still standing on the island of New Providence. Pirates were a big nuisance back then and Fort Montagu helped defend the island between 1690 and 1720.

The fort has passed through the hands of three different people. The US naval forces seized it in March 1776 before it was later taken by the Spanish in 1782. The British finally took ownership in 1793.
