A judge has granted Patrick Mahomes Sr. permission to travel out of Texas to watch his son, Patrick Lavon Mahomes II, play Kansas City’s first preseason game in August.
Per TMZ, the superstar quarterback’s father filed the request on July 17 to be given the all-clear to attend Kansas City’s August 9 game against the Arizona Cardinals at the State Farm Stadium. The Texas judge, on July 22, ultimately granted him permission to attend the upcoming game.
Mahomes Sr. in the request stated that he’ll be away between August 8 and August 10. He also disclosed that he’ll be lodging at a hotel in Glendale, and he’ll abide by the conditions of his probation. He said he’ll provide a urinalysis test when he’s back in Texas on August 11.
Per the conditions of his plea deal after he was implicated for DWI, Mahomes Sr. must seek permission whenever he wants to travel out of Texas. This is also not the first time he has had to seek permission to leave the state, as he did the same before he traveled to Minnesota for an autograph show. He was also given the all-clear to travel to Las Vegas for his son’s charity golf event.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Mahomes Sr. entered a guilty plea to a charge of driving while intoxicated. Per NBC News, Mahomes Sr. was arrested for this incident in February 2024, marking his third DWI charge. The incident happened in Smith County, Texas, and the 54-year-old was subsequently indicted in April 2024.
“Today, Mr. Mahomes entered a guilty plea in his case pursuant to a written plea agreement,” Mahomes Sr.’s lawyer, Joseph D. Murphy, said in a statement at the time. “Our client is now living a sober life, and we believe that the steps he has taken to better his life helped us achieve a plea recommendation for probation.”
Mahomes Sr. agreed to five years of probation with one year of intense supervision, KETK reported. He has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on three separate occasions, with his first being in South Dakota in 2008, District Judge Kerry Russell told the court in August 2024.
