Hippocrates and the study of medicine

These days, one may be forgiven in terms of the supposed originality of Hippocrates’ achievements as the ancient father of medicine. The propaganda comes complete with the Hippocratic Oath taken by almost all doctors after graduating from medical school.

But the Greek, on his way to historical greatness, was schooled in Egypt, according to the knowledge of medicine that emerged from the time of Pharaoh Imhotep in about the 3rd millennia BC.

At a point, Imhotep was regarded by Greeks in the bracket of a lesser deity, specifically as the god of medicine.
