Scientific polygenism

In fairness, polygenism is not strictly a creation of the era of scientific racism. Polygenism is the notion that ethnicities or races have different origin stories. These stories are etiological or can be found in creation myths from many cultures, even in Africa.

However, scientific monogenism, the opposite of the above, holds the popular “All Out Africa” theory as the right way to understand our evolution. Yet, since the 19th century, many European and thinkers have theorized what they call scientific polygenism to explain racial differences as well as to push back against having to fundamentally recognize Africa as humanity’s first home.
