She is a UNICEF U.K. ambassador
Ramla’s story includes the tale of once being a refugee. Her family fled Somalia and found asylum in Britain. According to ESPN, she does not even know her exact age, since all her documents were lost as her family was fleeing Somalia.
Having firsthand experiences of being a refugee, Ramla is now working with UNICEF to use her voice to elaborate on their stories. In 2019, she traveled to the Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan, and socialized with the women and young girls who had fled Syria due to the conflict at the UNICEF Makani ‘My Space’ Center.
She taught the young children how to box in a makeshift gym and had fun with them. She told UNICEF, “I’m a refugee myself, born in Somalia, we fled to Kenya after the civil war. I have a similar story to everyone here.”
