Mauritius
Mauritius takes the lead on the African continent as the best place for doing business. Last year, Mauritius was ranked 20th globally, progressing from the 25th position in 2017, and 49th in 2016.
The country also ranks 2nd among Middle-Income economies, behind Malaysia which also scored 81.5 points.
Mauritius is ranked 13th out of 190 countries in the latest report, according to the World Bank. This represents the best ranking ever for Mauritius since the publication of the report in 2007.
Mauritius’ ease of doing business score increased to 81.5, narrowing the gap with the benchmark which is New Zealand (86.8). Within a span of only three years, Mauritius has moved up by 36 places in the Ease of Doing Business survey.
Key areas of reforms by Mauritius, according to the World Bank included: dealing with construction permits where Mauritius ranks 8th out of 190 countries; paying taxes where the country is ranked 5th with a score of 94% in the ease of paying taxes indicator amongst others.
