Africa has experienced one of its historic moments as its longest bridge and the fastest train was unveiled in the same week.

Early in the week, Mozambique unveiled the longest suspension bridge in Africa. Officially named the Maputo-Catembe Bridge, the US$750 million suspension bridge was a joint construction and management project between the Mozambican and Chinese governments and funded by the Export-Import Bank of China.

On Thursday, Morocco inaugurated a new train, Al Boraq, operated at a speed of 198 miles/h (twice the speed of South Africa’s Gautrain),  that connects two Moroccan cities: Tangier and Casablanca.  It has also cut down the travelling time between the two cities, 359km apart, to about two hours instead of four hours.

This makes Al Boraq the fastest train on the continent.
