How Davido raised nearly $400K in a day after asking fans to send him money to clear his Rolls Royce

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido will definitely be laughing all the way to the bank as his fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry continue to shower him with love after he jokingly asked them to send him money to clear his Rolls Royce from the port.

The 1 Milli singer, who’ll be celebrating his 29th birthday on November 21, took to Twitter on Wednesday to ask people he has given hit songs to send him money – albeit on a lighter note. The singer then went ahead to share his bank account details. And in the space of just 7 minutes, he had received around $17,000 in donations.

The Fall crooner then went ahead to throw a challenge, saying he wanted as much as ₦100,000,000 (around $240,000) so he could clear his luxury Rolls Royce vehicle from the port. As the donations kept coming in, the singer kept updating his followers on how much he had received.

In a follow-up tweet, Davido said his initial post asking for donations was just a joke. He, however, admitted he was overwhelmed by the love that was being shown to him. “I’m speechless,” he shared with crying and laughing emojis alongside a screenshot of his account balance. He had received around $100,000 at the time.

“I’m actually crying !! Just be good to pple man !!!! God ! I really love you guys man !!!!” he shared in another post. The donations kept pouring in even after the $240,000 target was reached. As at the time of this report, Jowo singer had received almost $400,000 in donations.

Despite the outpouring of love, the singer’s calls for people to send him money were received with mixed feelings. While some people argued he deserves it for his hard work, others said it wasn’t right for a wealthy person like him to demand money from fans as they’re not as rich as he is.

Take a look at some of the reactions below:
