Lemuel Haynes

Aside from Henry, another pioneer to have attained the status of a graduate before slavery was outlawed was Lemuel Haynes. He was the first person of African descent to become a pastor in American history. He was also the first Black person to gain a bachelor’s degree and shepherd a congregation. That is not the only accomplishment tied to his name. He was also the first African American to have been internationally published during his time in history. He was very vociferous about the dehumanizing treatment of Africans and spoke truth to power about the hypocrisy of those elected into leadership positions, according to Nations Media.
