Meet the eight Nigerians drafted to the NBA

The 19-year-old was picked by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the fifth overall pick in the first round, making him the first Nigerian in the 2020 draft class to be selected.

“It feels great to be the first Nigerian in this draft to be drafted,” the former Auburn Tigers star said after his selection. “It’s also just a blessing. My mom always tells me to keep that Nigerian pride. Even though I wasn’t born in Nigeria, I still got Nigerian blood. So it’s just having that on my shoulders.”
