Criminal charges have been brought against Mychelle Ray for allegedly holding a client hostage over a sudden $50 extra fee. The 31-year-old hairdresser from Memphis is currently facing charges of false imprisonment and aggravated assault.
According to the arrest affidavit, the victim told police that “the ordeal caused her to be in fear for her life,” per WMC.
The victim said that on September 13, she made an appointment for hair services at Luv My Hair Salon, 6870 Hillshire Drive and paid a $50 deposit.
She would use Zelle at the salon to pay her hairdresser $410. But Ray allegedly insisted on receiving an additional $50 from her client toward the completion of the hair service.
According to the unnamed client, Ray “became irate and began cursing and yelling at her” because she had questioned the extra charge.
As per the arrest document, the stylist allegedly threatened to harm the victim, declaring, “Don’t move, because I got these scissors next to your face.”
Plus, she wouldn’t let the victim leave the salon. She allegedly yelled, “B****, you not going nowhere until you pay me,” locking the door and blocking the woman’s way out.
The victim then contacted the police for assistance. Ray didn’t unlock the door until the police dispatcher warned her that she was breaking the law by preventing her customer from leaving, according to the affidavit.
Ray was arrested on Wednesday and sent to the Shelby County Jail before being released after posting a $7,500 bond.
