During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, veteran Houston rapper and jeweler Paul Wall revealed he had no idea he was White until his elementary school classmates told him so.

“I didn’t know I was white ’til white people told me I was white,” the 43-year-old said, per Billboard. “They was like, ‘You white. Why you talk and act like that? You white. And I’m like, what do you mean?’”

When co-host Jess Hilarious asked the Girl rapper when he ultimately became aware that he was White, he responded, “Definitely in elementary school or middle school.”

“I mean, all my friends were Black or Mexican or Asian. I lived in a very diverse neighborhood, there were white people there, but it was Mexican, Black, Vietnamese, Indian… A lot of everything. So, we got a great mixture of growing up in America, I guess,” he added.

The rapper on a lighter note also made mention of his mother saying she was three percent African after she underwent a DNA test. “I know she can’t say the N-word. That ain’t enough for her to say the N-word,” he said, with the room bursting out in laughter.
