Have you ever wondered what your favourite Emoji meant? Have you ever wondered the origin of the Emoji you use on a daily basis? Emojis are icons and characters used by smart-phone users to express thoughts or feelings in conversations or chats. They exist in various genres and colours including facial expressions, common objects, places, types of weather and animals.

Emoji originate from the Japanese words emeaning picture and mojiwhich means character. They have become part of popular culture and our daily conversation. They come from Emoticons and are mostly used to help people clarify the tone of messages.

According to Emojipedia, the face with tears of joy “?” is the most used emoji. World Emoji Day is held on July 17 to celebrate the existence of emoji.

They were created by the Japanese in 1998.
