Fans who tuned in Monday night to enjoy a friendly music battle between superstar producer Babyface and Teddy Riley were taken by surprise after claims that Michael Jackson once tried to date Halle Berry.
Babyface, during the Instagram Live battle with his fellow producer Riley, said the late music legend once asked him to set him up on a date with the Oscar-winning actress.
Legendary R&B singer Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds shared the story after Riley played SWV’s hit record “Right Here,” which samples Jackson’s 1982 song “Human Nature.”
“Speaking of MJ, it reminds me of a story—true story, fun fact,” Babyface started. “One time, Michael called me, Michael said, ‘Babyface, do you know who Halle Berry is? Do you know Halle Berry?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I know Halle Berry.’ He said, ‘Could you do me a favor? I want you to call her because I want to take her out on a date.’ I said, ‘What?’ and he said, ‘Call her, I want to take her out on a date.'”
The 62-year-old hitmaker said since he didn’t have Berry’s number, he contacted her team and gave them the message.
“I can’t tell you exactly what Halle said, but I imagine it probably would have been something like this: ‘You know, what do you know about love? What could you possibly know about love?’”
Some of you might be familiar with the above quote, which is from the movie “Boomerang” where Berry played the role of Angela.
Babyface executive produced the official “Boomerang” soundtrack, featuring songs by Boyz II Men, TLC, Toni Braxton, A Tribe Called Quest, and more. Babyface also produced many of Jackson’s hit songs. The R&B star’s friendly music battle with Riley was part of an ongoing series called Verzuz which sought to entertain fans in quarantine.
