Recap: Day One of Africa Fashion Week New York (AFWNY)

Oladoyin Oladspo July 15, 2011

Last night in the heart of New York City, African fashion lovers, gurus, models, and designers gathered at the Broad Street Ballroom for the opening show of Africa Fashion Week New York, and even though it was an invite-only event, Face2Face has got the full scoop for you.

An annual event, AFWNY is a three day event dedicated to showcasing the talent of African designers. Truly unique in nature, this event was not exclusive to Africans alone as designers and models of all ethnic backgrounds were present celebrating the now popular trend that is African fashion.

Day one featured designers, Korto Momolu, KikoRomeo, Gloria Wavamunno, Rough, Blackbird Designs, Syl Anim, Bebegrafiti, Kachi Designs, and Jo Black Craze.

The styles ranged from everyday to wedding day. Speaking of wedding, two lucky people got married right on the runway, yesterday at the opening of the show. Now that's what we call a Fashion Lover! The fun continues tonight at Day Two of AFWNY. Make sure you stay tuned with Face2Face Africa all week!
