2017 has been a productive and successful year for Issa Rae.  The American-Senegalese writer, director, producer, and actress has seen mega success with The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl (2011), First (2014), and Insecure (2016).

She has also been nominated for 2017 Best Actress in a TV Comedy or Musical for her performance on HBO’s Insecure. Today, HBO picked up two new show concepts from Rae named Him Or Her which will showcase the topsy-turvy dating life of a bi-sexual African-American man; and Sweet Life that will exhibit the high-class lifestyle of African-American teens in Windsor Hills – a neighborhood dubbed as the ‘Black Beverly Hills.’

Issa Rae first rose to prominence with Awkward Black Girl, a web series she wrote that gained over 20 million views and over 260,000 subscribers on Youtube.

She is also the writer of the New York Times best-selling memoir, the Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl, a Forbes 20 under 30 Fellow, and an Essence Magazine Game Changer.

Issa often shares her experiences about growing up in Senegal as a child.
