Nelson Mandela – South Africa

Although Nelson Mandela was the popular choice of the people, he had some detractors who wanted to see him fail. His life was almost cut short after an attempt by some white supremacists who were planning to bring back apartheid to South Africa.

The group who were sentenced to 35 years in prison, planted a roadside bomb along the route Mandela was due to travel on. Fortunately for Mandela, it was detonated by a tug on an attached fishing line.

The group were reported to have planted bombs in mosques,  railway stations and petrol stations in the black township of Soweto in order to destabilize the nation.
