DJ Red Alert
Highly regarded as a Hip-Hop pioneer, DJ Red Alert was born in Antigua and moved to Harlem, NYC, where he grew up. Real name Frederick Crute, the 63-year-old rose to prominence in the 1980s as one of the first radio DJs with Kiss FM in New York City.
His Red Alert Productions, which was one of the most prominent hip-hop management companies during his heydays, oversaw the careers of several golden-era rap giants, according to BET. As a key backer for legendary hip-hop groups, Boogie Down Productions and the Native Tongues Crew, Uncle Red – as he’s also known – worked with the likes of De La Soul, A tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep and Jungle Brothers.
