Milk Tart
This beloved dessert has a whole day dedicated to it, National Milk Tart day. It’s celebrated each year on February 27, however, leave it to the aunties and grannies from the different communities to latch unto this dessert all year.
This creamy milk-based custard dessert is flavored with cinnamon and it’s known in Afrikaans as Melktert. It is set in a soft shortcrust pastry and sometimes seasoned with orange zest or cardamom.
It can be found in almost every café in the country or at supermarkets, some say the best ones are made at home with love.
