Dwayne Johnson, also known as the Rock, knows no limit when it comes to achieving success. The professional wrestler turn entrepreneur is translating his success in the ring to the business world.
It will be recalled that last year, he launched his own liquor brand called Teremana Tequila. A year later, he has posted record sales, despite launching in March, at the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Rock, as he is affectionately called in the ring, announced to his over 205 million followers on Instagram that he is on track to sell 300,000 cases and has shipped roughly 400,000 cases of Teremana in its first year of operations.
“It’s official – we’ve made history ?? @teremana has become the biggest launch in the history of the spirits business,” he wrote on Instagram. “Of any spirit, ever.In less than one year we’re on track to sell 300,000 cases and ship roughly 400,000 cases of Teremana in our first year of business. (for context Clooney sold his Casamigos tequila brand at roughly 175,000 cases).I am so grateful and humbled to receive this mind blowing news – but I’m in this for the long term and my goal is to build a MANA fueled legacy for generations of Johnson’s.And we’ll happily take ‘The tito’s of Tequila’ any day.”
The Hollywood star shared another message thanking his fans for making his brand liquor achieve the sales breakthrough. “THANK YOU ALL for making our @teremana a record breaking and historic success in the spirits business,” he shared. “Such incredible and humbling news to enjoy, but further cements our commitment to building a legacy brand that’s ultra premium, delicious to the taste and most importantly – affordable for EVERYONE. The tequila of the people.”
The Rock tells Forbes his aim is to create a premium brand that is affordable to everyone. “When we first launched our Teremana brand, many said that I was crazy to deliver such a high quality tequila at such an affordable price, but to me the most important ‘P word’ in my business isn’t profit—it’s people. And that’s why Teremana, will always be the tequila of the people,” he said.
The Rock is not the only Black celebrity to invest in the tequila market recently. NBA star Michael Jordan has his Cincoro Tequila brand.
