These 5 African countries carried out executions in 2018

Somalia

It witnessed a significant decrease in the number of executions, compared to 2017 when 24 executions were confirmed. In all, 13 executions were recorded in 2018. Of this figure, three were under the authority of the Federal Government of Somalia and 10 under the authority of Jubaland regional administration. All the executions were carried out by firing squad, Amnesty said. 15 death sentences imposed – seven were by the Federal Government of Somalia, seven in Puntland and one in Jubaland. All the executions and death sentences were carried out and imposed for murder and terrorism-related offences.
