Paul Biya – Cameroon

Cameroon’s English speaking regions faced an internet blackout for months following protests against economic and political discrimination.

The president ordered telecommunication companies to block internet to the South West and North West regions so as to stop the angry residents from sharing information.

Hundreds of people were subsequently killed and hundreds more arrested after the president ordered the military to storm the regions where secessionist groups were demanding for independence.
