Kenyatta was of a different strand in the ideology that was Pan-Africanism. This is because while the likes of Nkrumah supported a leftist bend, Kenyatta was in the opposite minority, favouring market capitalism.

Apart from that, he argued in many speeches and in writings for the immediacy of tribal identity over one’s nationality even. This philosophy spurred modern-day Kikuyu nationalism.
