These are the only five Black women to have ever traveled into space

Traveled into space on September 15, 2021

Sian Hayley Proctor is an American commercial astronaut, geology professor, and science communicator born on March 28, 1970, in Hagåtña, Guam. She is a geology professor at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix and a Major in the Civil Air Patrol. She was the pilot of the Crew Dragon Space Capsule that launched into Earth’s Orbit on September 15, 2021. The Crew Dragon Space Mission was the first all-civilian human spaceflight mission. The mission made Dr. Proctor the first African-American woman to pilot a spacecraft and the fourth African American woman to go into space. She spent 2 days, 23 hours, and 3 minutes in Space.
