The Jackson family is arguably one of the most famous families in the world with power and influence. The Jackson family consists of the nine children of Joseph and Katherine Jackson, who were born and raised in the Midwestern industrial city of Gary, Indiana.

The family built its foundation on music. Joseph, a mill crane operator, and one-time rhythm blues guitarist, would drive his five oldest sons to practice music for three hours a day. The brothers eventually started performing in local talent constants. In no time, they became household names.

Known as the Jackson 5, they signed with Motown, the black-owned Detroit recording company. The record label took charge of the group, selecting their songs, and managing their performances as well as the right to their name.

They released their first single I Want You Back in 1969 followed by AC in 1970. The singles also brought out Michael’s unique vocals but the group eventually broke with Motown and signed with Epic, which offered them five times more in royalties. They also rebranded to the Jacksons because Motown owned the name Jackson 5.

Later, some members of the Jacksons began to pursue solo careers. This path saw the emergence of pop icon Michael Jackson and his sister Janet Jackson. Over the course of their music career, the Jackson family accumulated a massive fortune. Face2Face Africa explores how rich each member of the Jackson family is, based on speculative estimates from various sources. (Click Next to continue)
