Geraldine Gimblet sacrificed her life savings to help cater for her daughter after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. A day after her daughter completed her treatment, Gimblet had another thing to be excited about as she won $2 million by trying her luck at a scratch-off lottery game.
According to WSAZ-TV, Gimblet told the Florida Lottery that the winning ticket she purchased at the gas station was actually the last scratch-off game ticket at the establishment. “At first the gas station clerk thought there were no tickets left, but I asked him to double check because I like the crossword games the best. He found the last one,” she recalled.
Gimblet, together with her daughter, as well as her granddaughter, went to the lottery headquarters to claim her prize. She also opted to take home the $1,645,000 lump sum amount on the table.
“I’m just so happy for her,” said Gimblet’s daughter. “The day before my mom bought this ticket, I rang the bell and walked out of the hospital after completing my last treatment for breast cancer.”
