On Saturday April 26, 2014 The GWB Commission held its 6th Annual Green, White & Blue Ball commemorating Sierra Leone’s 53rd Independence Anniversary at the Fillmore Silver Spring. The theme which was titled “Eras: The Sierra Leone Experience” aimed to pay homage to Sierra Leone’s history and its resilience. Festivities prior to The GWB Ball capped off with a week long schedule of events with mixers such as an Open Mic and a Day Party closing off the week long “experience”
The night began with an awards portion where United Nations Special Representative on Sexual Violence Zainab Bangura (Lifetime Achievement), International Artists Bajah and Dry Eye, (Arts and Entertainment) and civil war survivor Memuna Mansaray (Sports) were honored by The GWB Commission for their achievements and representation of Sierra Leone. Hosted by the talented Broadway Actor of the hit musical FELA! Duain Richmond took to the stage and joined talented artists Heaven Jay and Abizzy as they performed well known hits loved by the Sierra Leonean community. The night reached a fever pitch as DJ No Name and DJ Lebbie played classic hits and guests were in for a pleasant surprise as cultural masked performers pierced through the audience.
This years GWB Ball was made possible by sponsors Jabs Group and Arik Air, partners Prince Zamira Photography and Restycle and the diaspora from all over the United States as the night was captured by media partners BellaNaija, Face2Face Africa, Because I Am Fabulous and All Things Ankara.
