Nigerian boy selling oranges gets scholarship plus $1,370 from U.S.-based man after a video of him singing goes viral

Donations keep pouring in for Ayomide Adeoyelu, the young Nigerian boy who won many hearts recently after being spotted singing with an angelic voice while selling oranges on the streets.

Adeoyelu, who became an instant sensation when a video of himself singing a gospel song surfaced on the internet, has been gifted the sum of N500,000 [$1,379] by a US-based Nigerian policeman.

The law enforcement official, Oshiyoye Olusegun, announced on social media site Instagram that the donation was to fund part of Adeoyelu’s education.

The talented kid singer subsequently shared a video in appreciation of the officer’s kindness.

“You are very welcome my brother… May the grace that located you continue to abide with you,” the officer replied.

The officer’s gift is the second major donation Adeoyelu has received ever since the video of him singing went viral.

Last week, the young boy was awarded a fully paid scholarship by a self-declared evangelist, Esther Ajayi.

This was after Adeoyelu had stunned a large crowd with his angelic voice while performing at a praise and worship concert held at Tafawa Balewa Square, a national park in Lagos, Nigeria.

Ajayi, who also refers to herself as a prophetess, said her Foundation will move Adeoyelu to a private school while his voice would be trained by a specialist. By the end of 2019, he should have recorded an album, Ajayi said.

Over the years, there have been tons of viral videos featuring children who were not just showing the world how cute they were but their incredible talents.

Through various acts of singing, dancing, writing, or being philanthropic, these children were the biggest and most active on the internet.

Whether deliberately or not, their actions provided some sort of encouragement and relief and it was almost impossible not to love them.

Adeoyelu is among many others who have taken timelines by storm either knowingly or unknowingly.

In 2016, a picture of Jake Amo, the chubby-cheeked boy wearing a serious expression was turned into a meme, filling timelines and inboxes. The photo was taken in 2015 by American photographer Carlos Cortes as part of a documentary about Solomon Adufah, a Ghanaian artist who started teaching art and creative studies to young children after returning from the United States, according to BBC.

The social media buzz prompted Adufah to start an online fundraiser, which turned the shares and likes into thousands of dollars.

The funds raised have since been used to pay school fees for Jake and his village mates while he is also enrolled in an extracurricular programme at his school to help him with his English, maths and drawing.
