South Africans have been heaping praises and congratulations on their country’s representative group at this year’s America’s Got Talent (AGT), the Ndlovu Youth Choir, as they make it to the semi-final stage of the competition.
The Choir, made up of young men and women from mostly poor backgrounds of the dusty streets of Moutse in Limpopo, South Africa, made their first appearance on the AGT with an electrifying performance that swept all four judges off their feet.
This time around, the group beat stiff competition from both contestants and a split vote tie decision between judges to make it to the semi-finals of the show after another live heartwarming performance at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
While judges, Simon Cowell and Gabrielle Union voted to keep the choir in the competition, the other two judges, Howie Mandel and Julianne Hough voted against them.
At the end of it all, the finale decider came when votes from America pushed the Ndlovu Choir through to the next-stage.
Following this, many South Africans have poured onto social media to speak of how well the group has been placing their country on the global stage, talent-wise.
Terry Crews, host of the AGT, also tweeted his excitement at the group’s performance, thanking them for “bringing a smile to my face.”
Joy. Passion. Happiness. HOPE! Thank you for bringing a smile to my face @ChoirAfrica! #agt pic.twitter.com/xg4IlOlzKW
