Supermodel Naomi Campbell has announced the birth of her first child. The 50-year-old disclosed on Instagram Tuesday that she is now the mother of a baby girl.

“A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother,” she wrote as she shared a picture of her hand holding the baby’s feet. “So honoured to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you my angel. There is no greater love.”

The news comes just a few days ahead of her birthday. Her friends have since congratulated her. British Vogue editor Edward Enninful wrote: “Seeing the two of you together made my year. You will bring each other so much joy.”

Actress Zoe Saldana also reacted to the news. “Oh my goodness congrats lady! What a blessing!!!” Designer Marc Jacobs commented: “Oh my God!!!!! Today is the day?? How absolutely incredible.

“How lucky she is and how lucky you are! What a wonderful Mother you will be. Blessings all around.”

Campbell had not revealed that she was to become a mother. She had however mentioned in the past that she would like to have a child. “I think about having children all the time. But now with the way science is I think I can do it when I want,” the British-Jamaican supermodel told the Evening Standard in 2017.

Campbell, who became the first Black British model to appear on the cover of British Vogue, has earned praise for her charity work. She continues to be a vocal voice against prejudice and discrimination in the industry.
