Riaan Naude, a 55-year-old trophy hunter known for killing lions, giraffes, and elephants, was fatally shot in South Africa after his truck developed a fault. According to Metro, police said the fatal incident occurred on Marken Road in Limpopo province.

Naude’s lifeless body was found next to his car. Police also reportedly said they’re yet to establish the motive behind the murder. The items found in Naude’s car included two hunting rifles.

“The man was lying with his face up and there was blood on his head and face,” Police spokesperson Lt.col. Mamphaswa Seabi said.

At the time of his killing, Naude was the head of Pro Hunt Africa. The company is said to be a “hunting and Eco Safari outfit.”

The Heritage Protection Group (HPG), which is a non-profit crime-fighting organization, said a gunman pulled up and fatally shot Naude after he stopped his car because of overheating issues. The group also said two men were responsible for the killing, adding that they were in a white Nissan pickup truck.

The men allegedly made away with a pistol in Naude’s possession following the shooting
