Actor Idris Elba has revealed that he had to turn down an offer from her daughter to be part of the characters in his latest movie Beast. Isan asked his father to allow her to play the role of his daughter in the movie, but, the actor said it felt weird acting with her. He recalled in an interview with the Breakfast Club that the connection of father and daughter role that existed between them didn’t feel right transferring same in the movie.
“The relationship in the film and the relationship between my daughter was, the chemistry wasn’t right for [the] film,” Elba said on the show, before adding, “weirdly enough.”
Elba said it was heavy for him to break the news to his daughter so he had to rely on movie producer, Will Packer, to do so on his behalf. He intimated that Isan did not speak to him for three weeks because of the incident.
He expressed happiness they have gotten over the issue. According to him, Isan accompanied him to the movie premiere of the Beast, indicative of the fact that, she has gotten the lesson.
But his decision not to cast his daughter has sparked debate. “Nepotism is how lots of people got their positions in the business world. I don’t think there is anything wrong with helping a family member get a position,” one movie fan wrote on Reddit.
“I think 90 percent of people have abused nepotism in their life, so in my opinion it’s more weird to not go out your way to help your daughter succeed is worse parenting. Hot take, but almost every family will inevitably look out for each other,” another wrote.
Isan is the actor’s eldest daughter he had with make-up artist, Kim Norgaad.
The Beast will be released on the 26th of August, this year.
