Nigerian music star Davido has offered a candid warning to Black Americans considering relocating to Africa after Donald Trump’s re-election.
The music icon emphasized that the economic and living conditions in many African nations, which includes his home country Nigeria, are worse than what they currently face in the United States.
Many dissatisfied with Trump’s policies have expressed interest in seeking greener pastures in Africa. However, Davido warned on “The Big Homies House” podcast that a change of mind is needed in that regard as he painted a stark picture of life back home.
Why is Trump yet to appoint a Black Person to his Cabinet?
“You wanna leave America and go where? Go back where? It’s not cool back home. My country now, the economy is just bad,” he said. “I do my part. I’m an ambassador. But when I’m showing my work, I’m not gonna show the bad parts.”
The Nigerian star highlighted his country’s worsening economic challenges from high oil prices to a faltering exchange rate as one that is difficult to deal with and should be avoided.
“I go to the trenches, but I’m talking about the situation. Now the exchange rate is messed up. A lot of stuff is not going well. The economy is not good anymore. Oil prices are too high. Imagine, that’s a country that produces oil. We produce the oil, and we pay more money for it,” he added.
Despite his criticisms, Davido nonetheless acknowledged Africa’s growing influence in the entertainment and music industry as one of the positives in recent years amid the continent’s challenges.
“Regardless, entertainment is one of the things that makes Africa look good, but we do not have the best leaders, and that is a fact,” he said.
