Twin brothers Mykel and Markel Rainey from Georgia are graduating top of their class as they become valedictorian and salutatorian at Randolph Clay High School in Cuthbert. Mykel will be the valedictorian and Markel will be the salutatorian, with both being proud of making history in education.

The twin brothers said they were inspired to succeed “beyond any limitations” after participating in graduation last year as honor students. NBC 12 reports that to be selected as valedictorian and salutatorian, one must maintain an A/B grade on the honor roll and a 3.5 GPA. The parents of the Rainey brothers are elated and proud of the accomplishments of their boys.

“You know, boys tend to stray away and be hard and difficult, but I didn’t get that from them … If they had issues or doubts and I pushed them. They did so. Surprised but not surprised,” their mother Tamika Rainey said.

Mykel and Markel are heading to Savannah State University this fall and they hope their story will inspire other kids to work hard while staying positive.

The brothers’ achievements come months after twin sisters Gloria and Victoria Guerrier were named valedictorian and salutatorian of their high school class in New York. The sisters, who are all-state track stars, said they helped each other get to this level. Their mom said right from her womb, they were competitive and they continue to be even though they don’t forget to push each other.
