A San Antonio mother of six said she enrolled three of her daughters in college before they turned 15, with scholarships. Melissa Williams told Kens5 that she created curriculums to meet the strengths of her children after her oldest daughter Ate’sia and her only son were homeschooled.
After ensuring that nearly all her children had both public and homeschooling, Williams’ daughter Alana graduated in 2021 and entered Miles College in Alabama when she was 14, with a 3.7 GPA. Miles College was chosen by the family because it was quite close to home. Alana is now 17 and studying biology while also a member of the Miles College Golden Star Majorette Dancers, the National Honor Society, the Chess Club, Tau Beta Sigma sorority, and other groups on campus, Kens5 reported.
Alana’s younger sister, Aniyah, also graduated at 13 years old with a 3.0 and was accepted to Miles College. Aniyah said she was initially a little bit nervous and at 5’9″, many thought that she wasn’t 13. For those who believed she was, they considered her a genius, but Aniyah doesn’t want to be referred to as such. She said she is just as smart as the next person. Now 15, she is majoring in business/pre-law and is on her college’s chess team and part of an honors curriculum organization.

14-year-old Adina recently graduated and will also be at Miles, like her sisters. Adina graduated with a 3.5 GPA and was in many clubs during high school including the theater club, soccer, and choir clubs.
“I was always been known to be, like, the stupid kid and the weirdo. So I didn’t think I could really do it. It was always because of my weight and because of the questions I would ask,” Adina, who plans to major in political science, said.
All three gifted girls said their mother helped them succeed in the face of uncertainties. “She’s just so in tune with, like keeping us where we’re supposed to be and letting us know how to build our relationship with God,” Alana said. “Our foundation with God has really grown.”
Williams was initially married and lived in Louisville, Atlanta, Chicago, and Nashville before moving to Midland-Odessa and Dallas after marriage. She and her family were homeless for five years and lived in a shelter, in her vehicle, and with relatives. All the while, her children were being homeschooled but Williams was optimistic that there will be an end to the difficulties. Last October, she and her family moved to San Antonio’s east side. She now has to adjust to the fact that her young girls are away from her and in school. For now, she contacts the school often to make sure they are fine.
“It was definitely scary and challenging. And it took a lot of prayer and God’s direction and faith,” the 42-year-old mother said of the current situation.
