Jonathan Majors’ ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari has dropped the defamation, assault, and battery lawsuit that she brought against him. Per TheWrap, Jabbari filed the lawsuit in the U.S. Southern District court of New York in March.
No details were provided on why Jabbari opted to cease pursuing the lawsuit, and it is also unclear if the two parties agreed on a settlement. Majors and Jabbari’s attorneys announced in a joint statement that the lawsuit had been dropped. They also said their clients would individually bear their legal expenses.
“IT IS HEREBY STIPULATED AND AGREED by and between Plaintiff Grace Jabbari and Defendant Jonathan Majors, through their undersigned attorneys, that all claims against Defendant in the above-captioned action are hereby dismissed with prejudice, pursuant to Fed. R. Civ. P. 41(a)(1)(A)(ii), and each party will bear its own costs and attorneys’ fees,” the statement said.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Majors, 35, was arrested last March in New York after Jabbari, who is a British choreographer, accused him of attacking and injuring her. But Majors has maintained his innocence. In December, Majors was found guilty of one count of assault and one count of harassment but was acquitted of another count of assault and one aggravated harassment count.
According to prosecutors, Majors and Jabbari were in a car in New York when she saw a text message from another woman on his phone, which read: “Wish I was kissing you right now.”
Prosecutors said that when Jabbari took the phone, Majors grabbed her, twisted her arm behind her back, and hit her in the head to get the phone back. Jabbari told the court that the attack left her with a fractured finger, a cut behind her ear, and bruising.
Majors, however, avoided jail time as he was sentenced to domestic violence programming in April. Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Michael Gaffey, who decided that “jail is not necessary”, said the actor must complete a 52-week in-person batterers intervention program in Los Angeles and continue mental health counseling. He was also ordered to stay away from Jabbari, ABC News reported.
Majors faced a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail, but the Manhattan district attorney’s office did not seek jail time. His sentencing also came after a judge dismissed an appeal to toss his assault and harassment conviction and acquit him of the charges, Deadline reported.
Although Majors was spared jail time, the repercussions of his guilty verdict have already impacted him beyond the courtroom. The guilty verdict resulted in his removal from his Marvel role as Kang the Conqueror.
