It was a vibrant canine culture after dogs took over the runway in traditional Nigerian attire at the annual Lagos Dog Carnival. Owners brought hundreds of furry friends to the commercial capital to participate in the event.

Organizer Jackie Idimogu said this year’s theme ‘Wazobia’ was geared towards honoring Nigeria’s rich heritage. She explained that the Carnival provides a dedicated space throughout the year for dog owners to celebrate their beloved “paw babies” with unique festivities, as reported by Africa News.

“The importance of putting Lagos Dog Carnival together cannot even be put in one sentence, it means a lot to the dog dads and the dog mums because from January to December they don’t have anywhere that they go to specifically to celebrate their paw babies and when I say paw, I mean p-a-w, paw babies” Idimogu added.

Aside from the Lagos Dog Carnival offering the dogs an opportunity to compete, there were other offerings such as pet care demos, training sessions, and valuable advice on veterinary care and adoption.

Fellow owner, Didi Afe, said he found the Carnival educational and a fascinating platform for dog owners to interact.

Various dog breeds, including Pomeranians, Cane Corsos, and Siberian Huskies, showcased their outfits at the fifth-year festival.

A Lhasa Apso, however, took the prize for the best-dressed dog for its traditional Igbo attire.
