Rapper Snoop Dogg seems to be shifting his perspective on former President Donald Trump. In a recent interview, the 52-year-old rapper stated that Trump hasn’t done anything wrong to him and has actually done great things, citing the pardon of Michael Harris as an example.
“Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me,” Snoop told the Sunday Times. “He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris.”
“I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.”
This comes weeks after Snoop’s satirical remark that he would “give up smoke.” In the final days of his presidency, Trump granted clemency to Michael “Harry O” Harris, co-founder of Death Row Records, who was convicted of attempted murder in a kidnapping case.
The rapper, who had previously urged his fans in 2019 to vote against Trump, had a much harsher stance on the former president before Trump’s pardon of Harris. Snoop had emphatically stated that there was no way his fans should vote for Trump in any future elections, according to the New York Post.
“I just want to say this real quickly,” Snoop pleaded to his fans on social media at the time. “Ain’t no f—ing way y’all can vote for Donald Trump when he come back up again.”
“And this punk … don’t care. Don’t vote for that n—, please don’t. Look what he do. He just don’t give a f—.”
In 2017, Snoop released a music video for “Lavender” where he mockingly portrayed shooting a character named “Ronald Klump.” In response, Trump criticized the rapper on Twitter, questioning what the reaction would be if Snoop had aimed the gun at then-President Obama.
Snoop had previously referred to Trump as a “racist, f—king clown president.” Even before Trump’s presidency, Snoop had headlined a Comedy Central roast of Trump in 2011.
“Why not? It wouldn’t be the first time you’d pushed a black family out of their home,” the rapper joked during the roast about murmurs of Trump running for president at the time.
On one of his album covers for “Make America Crip Again,” Snoop featured an image of himself standing over what appeared to be a deceased body draped with an American flag, bearing a tag that read “Trump.”
However, the rapper, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., later softened his stance on Trump, particularly after the former president granted clemency to Harris.
In 2021, Snoop expressed appreciation for the work done by Trump and his team during their time in office and upon leaving, stating that he loved what they accomplished.
“It is amazing what the work of God can actually bring to life to make people understand that there is a God.”
Trump is currently the clear and dominant frontrunner for the Republican nomination for the presidential candidacy.
