Gunfire that erupted near a music video set in Florida for rapper Sexyy Red left one person dead and another admitted to a hospital. Per NBC News, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report about a shooting before 8 p.m. on Thursday, adding that the location given was the 3100 block of W. Oakland Park Boulevard near the Oakland Park Flea Market.

Deputies who responded to the scene found two people who had been shot. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene while the other individual was taken to a hospital for medical care.

Authorities said the shooting happened “near a video shoot being filmed in the area” and detectives were investigating to check if there was any connection between the two.

“I send my condolences to the family of the man who lost his life and prayers up for the person who was wounded,” Sexyy Red shared in a statement on Instagram.

“To be clear it happened at a gas station across the street from my video set. Florida Highway Patrol and Broward County Sheriff confirmed that the shooting wasn’t on my set,” the 25-year-old St. Louis rapper claimed.

Despite her claim, the sheriff’s office in a statement said the case is still under investigation. “We finished the shoot at a different location and everyone from our set went home safely. Period,” the rapper said.

Sexyy Red has made a name for herself as one of the breakout female rappers of 2023. Her hit single, SkeeYee, presently sits at number one on a new Billboard chart that rates how a song performs on TikTok, NBC News reported. She also earned a BET Hip Hop award nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist and was added as an opener for Drake’s It’s All A Blur tour.
