With about 39 days until the 2024 U.S. election, supporters of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have shared their views on how the candidates’ policies will affect different ethnic groups.
From Black, Hispanic, and Asian to White people, survey respondents discussed how they believe these presidential candidates’ policies would impact them.
The survey, conducted by the Pew Research Center from August 26 to September 2, 2024, gathered opinions from 9,720 members of the Center’s American Trends Panel, including 8,044 registered voters. Respondents expressed differing views on the potential effects of Trump’s and Harris’ policies.
Regarding the impact of Trump’s policies, six-in-ten or more Trump supporters believe his policies would improve conditions for Black (65%), White (64%), Hispanic (63%), and Asian people (60%).
On the other hand, Harris supporters are somewhat more likely to say Trump’s policies would benefit White people (35%) rather than harm them (23%). However, clear majorities of Harris supporters expect Trump’s policies to negatively affect Hispanic (81%), Black (78%), and Asian people (65%).

Impact of Harris’ Policies
Majorities of Harris supporters say she would improve conditions for Black (66%) and Hispanic (62%) people, and about half (51%) believe she would improve conditions for Asian people. Roughly half of Trump supporters say Harris’ policies would worsen conditions for these groups.
Additionally, about six-in-ten Harris supporters (59%) believe she wouldn’t significantly affect White people, while 36% say she would make things better. In contrast, seven-in-ten Trump supporters say Harris’ policies would worsen conditions for White people.
The survey also explored how Harris’ and Trump’s policies would impact women, men, and wealthy individuals.
Respondents were more likely to say Harris’ policies would benefit women, union members, Black people, Hispanic people, and low-income individuals compared to Trump’s policies. Meanwhile, voters were more likely to predict that Trump’s policies would favor wealthy individuals, White people, men, and military veterans.
As Election Day approaches, both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are ramping up their campaigns, aiming to win over voters and secure their path to victory.
