Former Los Angeles Lakers star Lamar Odom recently shared his personal experience with “pink cocaine”, one of the drugs that were found in Liam Payne’s system after an autopsy was conducted.

Payne, 31, tragically fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16. A subsequent autopsy that was conducted found a cocktail of drugs in the former One Direction band member’s body. They included benzodiazepine, cocaine, crack, and “pink cocaine”, ABC News reported.

Per WebMD, “pink cocaine” is a “new designer drug” that is “typically a powdery mix of ketamine and illegal substances” such as MDMA, methamphetamine, cocaine, and others.

Odom in an interview with TMZ admitted he had tried “pink cocaine” in addition to “every” drug the autopsy stated was found in Payne’s body. The 44-year-old NBA champion said that “drugs could cause you to hallucinate,” adding that he had “heard voices before.”

Odom also said the cocktail of drugs in Payne’s system may have caused him to hallucinate. The retired NBA star offered his condolences to Payne’s family and his loved ones. “I’m gonna make sure I say a prayer for his family and everyone that he knows,” Odom said.

Odom has battled drug addiction in the past, and that nearly cost him his life in October 2015 after he was found unresponsive in a Nevada brothel following an alleged overdose. The incident left him in a coma and on life support. He also suffered kidney failure, heart attacks, and multiple strokes.

Following his recovery, Odom, however, claimed he was drugged the night before he was found unresponsive in the brothel, Face2Face Africa previously reported. “I didn’t take anything that night,” Odom said in an interview on Addiction Talk. “I was really hurt and almost in some sense afraid because somebody just tried to take my life.”

Odom also said God gave him another shot at life because he genuinely hadn’t consumed any drugs leading up to the alleged overdose. The retired basketball star said that incident spurred him to seek help and permanently stay clean as he hit “rock bottom.”

In April 2023, TMZ reported that Odom had acquired three drug rehabilitation centers in California to help people beat addiction. The investment in the drug treatment centers was a collaborative effort between Odom as well as Christian hip-hop artist Dontae Ralston, and skateboarding legend Dennis Martinez. The facilities are located in San Diego, El Cajon, and Lemon Grove.

Odom’s representative told the news outlet that the facilities are made up of a residential treatment home for women as well as two detox and residential treatment homes for men.
