Zaquan Shaquez Jamison, who was wanted in an Orangeburg County murder investigation, turned himself in and was arrested in North Charleston.
On the morning of August 15, the 20-year-old called Charleston County dispatch, identified himself, and stated that he wanted to turn himself in for his outstanding warrants, according to WCSC.
Jamison was arrested on warrants for murder, several counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon while committing a violent crime.
According to reports, police conducted a background check after he called into Charleston County dispatch Friday morning and found that the charges he was wanted on. The police also discovered that he had been classified as dangerous and armed.
He was arrested by the police after leaving a residence on Evanston Boulevard. According to reports, Jamison obeyed the cops’ orders.
Santee Police Chief Kevin Borghi had identified Jamison on August 14 and described the charges which originate from a January house shooting that killed 17-year-old Ja’Mareion Crawford. Reports said that Jamison fired 27 rounds from a handgun through a window of the victim’s home.
According to Borghi, the extra attempted murder charges were brought because the incident occurred in a house with other occupants.
However, Jamison denied that he could even pull a trigger during his arraignment hearing in a video that has since gone viral. He said that he was a burn survivor in a previous vehicle accident in October 2023.
“I would like to state, my parents are going to be filing a lawsuit because I am a burn victim and these hands are fractured, these hands can’t pull a trigger, they can’t even bend, just bringing it to your attention,” he said.
Jamison is seen in the video missing one hand below the wrist with numerous facial scars.
The Times and Democrat reports that Jamison spoke directly to the victim’s mother, who was present by phone, at the arraignment.
When she requested that his bond be refused, he told her, “If I’m found not guilty, I would like to sincerely apologize on Facebook.”
After spending time at the Al Cannon Detention Center, Jamison was moved to the Santee Police Department.
According to AOL, if convicted of murder, he may face life in prison.
