Mbaleka Jonathan Raymond also known as Jonás Rayme is a 24-year-old painter and musician hailing from Kampala, Uganda. Rayme started concentrating on his photography six years ago and began perfecting his painting in 2014; nevertheless, from the looks of his work, you’d think he’s been a professional artist for a longer amount of time.
Face2Face Africa had a chat with this artistic genius who describes art as being a calling rather than a profession he pursued. He emphasizes: “I didn’t decide to become an artist; it was inborn so I just followed my passion no matter what coz it’s what I loved doing always!” [sic] Keep reading to learn more about this digital painter, photographer, and musician.
Rayme’s father, Mr. Bukenya Charles is also an artist and musician; this explains how fine art was ingrained in his psyche since adolescence. Rayme says his inspirations are the different mediums of art he concentrates on; he enjoys recreating the world around him using modern skills and unique equipment.
Rayme has some notches under his belt to prove his work is being noticed. He’s won Rising Star Award in his native Uganda and also placed second in a 2017 UPPA photography award. Art isn’t the only goal this young artist hopes to accomplish. Rayme sees traveling, capturing extraordinary photographs, and producing music as items he will check off on his to-do list.
We can’t wait to see more.
