[Watch] Liberia’s ex president becomes first woman to win the Mo Ibrahim Prize

Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was on April 28 awarded the Mo Ibrahim Prize.

She becomes the first female laureate to win the award.

The Prize Committee awarded her the prize for her demonstrated exceptional and transformative leadership.

‘…confronted with unprecedented and renewed challenges, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf demonstrated exceptional and transformative leadership,’ read a statement on the prize website.

The Ibrahim Prize,  celebrating excellence in African leadership, is awarded to a former executive head of state or head of government.

Sirleaf, who was president from 2006 to 2018, becomes the sixth winner of the Ibrahim Prize.
