Angola, Ranked 58th worldwide
The Angola Armed Forces, made up of the army, navy and air force currently has an active force of up to 100,000 troops, 585 armoured fighting vehicles, 300 tanks, 285 aircraft and a navy of 57 craft. The large military budget is funded by the country’s oil reserves. In May this year, 88 generals in the army were sacked and 28 officers were promoted to take up varied positions, namely two admirals, one general, nine lieutenant-generals, 15 brigadiers and one rear-admiral. The president also appointed 66 officers to take up various leading positions inside the Angolan Armed Forces.
