It is almost summer in many parts of the world. And as the weather heats up, so will dance floors, house parties, and ceremonies, and for celebrations, there is no better music to play than Afrobeats.
Afrobeats is an umbrella term for the sound of local African pop music, mixed with hip-hop, funky house, and now dancehall coming from Africans and those of African descent around the world.
Most of today’s Afrobeats leading artists are Nigerian and Ghanaian, who usually talk about love, family, and dancing in their songs. Global demand for Afrobeats has sky-rocketed over the past few years and Africans artists are beginning to reap handsome financial rewards.
The first half of 2018 has seen both newcomers and veterans top the Afrobeats chart. This list is by no means exhaustive but it features some of the hottest Afrobeats songs of 2018 so far.
