Sun City South Africa was the venue of the South African Music Awards.
The 24th edition of the awards, which recognises the excellence of artists in the country, took place over two nights.
The awards faced controversy for allegedly excluding some of the popular music arts including Babes Wodumo, whose song featured in Black Panther, and Cassper Nyovest. Two other artists, Swazi-born singer Sands and DJ Mobi Dixon were taken off the nominees’ list by the Recording Industry of South Africa for being a foreign artist and for remixing an international song, respectively.
The Friday event was not televised but included the presentation of a number of awards including the best contemporary award, best collaboration among others.
Tonight we’re having our first award show which will not be televised but fortunately for you, you can tune into our social media pages for a glimpse of what is happening from 8pm- 10pm. Kuzobam’nandi! pic.twitter.com/eFgTq06CgT
