Georgie Badiel, 29, won the Miss Africa 2004 pageant and has since remained in the international sphere as a model and activist. She has walked in fashion shows for Oscar de La Renta, Marc Jacobs and in 2008, she was one of only two Black female models to walk for Louis Vuitton. She has been featured in various publications and campaigns, including Arise and M.A.C. Cosmetics. Her organization, Georgie Badiel Foundation, works to provide access to clean water and sanitation services for people in Burkina Faso and throughout Africa. She co-authored a book, The Water Princess, based on her childhood growing up in a village with little access to clean water.
