A 15-year-old boy has been apprehended in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a pregnant preschool teacher, April Zoglauer, and her child.

Zoglauer, 21 years old and 27 weeks pregnant at the time, was struck by a stolen Hyundai in San Jose. She was promptly taken to the hospital, where an emergency C-section was performed. Zoglauer succumbed to her injuries, but doctors successfully delivered her baby boy, Devontae Aaron Zoglauer.

The premature baby passed away the following day. The teenage driver, whose identity remains unnamed, was apprehended four days after the hit-and-run incident at Blossom Hill Road and Winfield Boulevard. Two other individuals who were in the car at the time are currently evading authorities, according to the Daily Mail.

Police identified the suspect in the hit-and-run case through an investigation, as the stolen car hadn’t been reported missing at the time of the crash. A memorial was established at the Play ‘N’ Learn Preschool in San Jose, where Zoglauer was employed.

Her association with the preschool began in her teenage years when she volunteered to assist with classes, offering teachers a much-needed break. Zoglauer had a special talent for soothing children transitioning to school life without parental supervision.

Tammy Lariz, the school’s operator, said that no one else could fill that role quite like Zoglauer, describing her as a blessing and emphasizing her immense significance to the school community.

Friends and family close to Zoglauer said she often spoke about her future, her impending motherhood, and an upcoming trip to Hawaii. Lariz initiated a GoFundMe campaign in memory of Zoglauer and her infant son, Devontae. She expressed their deep love for the baby, despite his brief time on earth, and the sorrow of his loss.

The GoFundMe, which aimed to raise $20,000, has already surpassed its goal. The funds will be used to assist with funeral expenses and medical bills and offer financial support to Zoglauer’s family during this challenging period.
